Trickserei mit Leih-Filmen in iTunes [Update]

Die Einführung des Online-Filmverleihs auf der diesjährigen MacWorld ist im Allgemeinen auf breite Zustimmung gestoßen. Zwei Aspekte sorgten jedoch schon relativ schnell für kleineren Unmut. Zum einen handelt es sich dabei um die Tatsache, dass geliehene Filme zwar vom Ursprungsrechner auf mobile Geräte und das Apple TV, nicht aber auf andere Rechner übertragen werden können. Zum anderen stören sich einige an der relativ kurzen Verfügbarkeit der Filme von 24 Stunden nachdem ein Film begonnen wurde. Mit ein bisschen Trickserei kann hier jedoch Abhilfe geschaffen und sowohl das 24-Stunden limit verlängert, als auch die Nutzung auf verschiedenen Rechnern möglich gemacht werden.

!!! UPDATE: Die unten beschriebene Vorgehensweise ist seit der iTunes Version 7.6.1 nicht mehr funktionsfähig !!!

Anleitung zum Verlängern des 24-Stunden Limts von begonnenen Filmen

Der erste Trick bezieht sich auf die Verlängerung der 24-Stunden Spieldauer von bereits begonnenen Filmen. Vielen ist der festgelegte Zeitraum von 24 Stunden zu kurz. Um diesen zu verlängern ist es lediglich nötig, eine weitere lokale Kopie des heruntergeladenen Films anzulegen und diese erneut in iTunes zu importieren, so dass der Film doppelt in der Bibliothek vorhanden ist.

Sobald man den einen Film startet, ist die andere Kopie hiervon noch nicht betroffen und steht weiter die restliche Zeit des 30-Tage Zeitraums zur Verfügung.

Dieser Vorgang kann natürlich beliebig oft während der 30 Tage Ausleihdauer wiederholt werden. Der einzige Nachteil dabei ist, dass die Kopie natürlich noch einmal 1-2 GB Speicherplatz zusätzlich bedeutet. Bei heutigen Festplattengrößen sollte dies jedoch kein allzu großes Problem darstellen.

Anleitung zum Übertragen von geliehenen Filmen auf einen anderen Computer

Das zweite Problem betrifft die Tatsache, dass der Film zur gleichen Zeit jeweils nur auf einem Gerät vorhanden sein darf. Allerdings, so versprach uns Steve Jobs, könne man den geliehenen Film auf jedes beliebige Gerät übertragen, um es dann dort weiter sehen zu können. Dies ist so allerdings nicht ganz korrekt. Man kann zwar den Film sowohl auf jeden beliebigen iPod, das Apple TV und auch auf das iPhone übertragen. Auf einen anderen Rechner ist dies jedoch nicht möglich. Sobald man dies nämlich versucht, erhält man die Fehlermeldung "Could not play the rented movie because it is authorized to play on another computer or device." Schlussendlich bedeutet dies, dass man sich den Film entweder auf einem iPod oder iPhone, dem Apple TV oder eben dem Rechner anschaut, auf dem man ihn heruntergeladen hat. Ein kleiner Trick schafft hier jedoch Abhilfe. So ist es möglich, den gemieteten Film vom Ursprungsrechner auf einen iPod oder ein iPhone zu übertragen, diesen dann an den anderen Rechner anzuschließen und ihn dort wiederum in dessen iTunes-Bibliothek zu übertragen. Dies funktioniert auch ohne die gesamte Bibliothek mit dem iPod zu synchronisieren. Achtung! Zum downloaden des gemieteten Films sollte immer die der Rechner mit der iTunes Hauptbibliothek verwendet werden, da zwar das Verschieben des Films vom iPod auf den anderen Rechner ohne Synchronisation der kompletten Bibliothek funktioniert, nicht aber das Verschieben vom Rechner auf den iPod.
