Amazons Mesh-WLAN System eero unterstützt ab sofort Apples HomeKit-Plattform

Mesh-WLAN-Systeme erfreuen sich immer größerer Beliebtheit. Und während die Verbreitung steigt, sinken natürlich auch die Preise der verfügbaren Mesh-Router und -Satelliten. Zu den günstigsten, und gleichzeitig durchaus brauchbaren Vertretern gehören die eero-Produkte, die inzwischen zum Amazon-Konzern gehören. Hierfür wurde nun ein Firmware-Update auf Version 3.18.0 ausgegeben, durch das die Geräte künftig in Apples Home-App eingebunden werden können, um HomeKit-fähige Geräte mit einem zusätzlichen Schutz zu versorgen. So ist es Nutzern anschließend beispielsweise möglich festzulegen, welche Dienste die HomeKit-Geräte fortan nutzen dürfen und ob dies nur für das heimische WLAN oder auch das Internet gilt. Damit lässt sich also quasi über die eero-Geräte eine Art Firewall nach dem Vorbild der beliebten Mac-App Little Snitch für jedes HomeKit-fähige Gerät im Netz errichten, um so die Sicherheit der eigenen smarten vier Wände zu erhöhen.
