Falls von euch schon mal jemand ein Buch im Apple Bookstore veröffentlicht hat, wird euch sicherlich der iBooks Author ein Begriff sein. Mit dieser Mac-App konnte man bislang vergleichsweise komfortabel seine E-Books für den Store am Mac erstellen und auch direkt veröffentlichen. In den vergangenen Monaten hat Apple jedoch die meisten Funktionen des iBooks Author auch in seine Textverarbeituns-App Pages integriert, weswegen nun das Ende für den Author gekommen ist. So informiert Apple nun darüber, dass die App nicht weiterentwickelt und am 01. Juli aus dem Mac AppStore entfernt wird. In seiner Mail an die bisherigen Nutzer schreibt Apple:

Thank you for being a member of the iBooks Author community. We have some news to share with you about the future of book creation.

Two years ago we brought book creation into Pages. With key features such as the ability to work on iPad, collaborate with others on a shared book, draw with Apple Pencil, and more, Pages is a great platform for making books.

As we focus our efforts on Pages, ?iBooks? Author will no longer be updated and will soon be removed from the Mac App Store. You can continue to use ?iBooks? Author on macOS 10.15 and earlier, and books previously published to Apple Books will remain available. If you have ?iBooks? Author books you'd like to import into Pages for further editing, we have a book import feature coming to Pages soon.

Bücher, die bislang mit dem iBooks Author veröffentlicht wurden, bleiben aber natürlich auch weiterhin erhältlich. Zudem kann man den ?iBooks? Author auch weiterhin unter macOS Catalina 10.15 nutzen, wenn er dort bereits installiert ist. Künftig sollen Autoren allerdings eher auf Pages setzen. Hierzu plant Apple auch demnächst eine neue Funktion in Pages zu integrieren, mit der sich Bücher aus dem iBooks Auther in die Textverarbeitungs-App importieren lassen.
