Erste Hands-On Eindrücke und Unboxing-Videos zu den neuen AirPods Max
Während die ersten offiziellen Reviews für die neuen AirPod Max Kopfhörer in den kommenden Tagen erwartet werden dürfen, haben es inzwischen die ersten Unboxing-Videos und Hands-On Erfahrungen ins Internet geschafft. Während es aktuell noch zu früh für ein ausführliches Fazit ist, sind die ersten Eindrücke zu Qualität und Klang der Kopfhörer durchweg positiv. Die Kollegen von The Verge berichten beispielsweise, dass die AirPods Max mehr als gut genug klingen, um sich mit den anderen High-End-Kopfhörern am Markt zu messen:
Sound-wise, I've had fun listening to the AirPods Max for a few hours — they're crisp and bright, with a pleasingly wider soundstage than my Sony headphones, and no distortion at all, even at max volume. We'll have a full review of these soon, including tests of spatial audio and Apple's claim of Atmos surround sound support, so stay tuned for that. But for now, rest assured the AirPods Max sound more than good enough to compete with other high-end headphones.
Die Kollegen haben beobachtet, dass es mit Apples 5 Watt Netzteil zwei Stunden dauerte, bis die AirPods Max komplett aufgeladen waren. Anschließend standen die von Apple versprochenen 20 Stunden Wiedergabezeit über die Kopfhörer zur Verfügung. Hat man über Nacht vergessen die AirPods zu laden, reichen fünf Minuten am Ladekabel aus, um auf 1,5 Stunden Wiedergabezeit zu kommen.
Die Tester von CNET zeigen sich besonders von der Geräuschunterdrückung der AirPods Max beeindruckt und gehen davon aus, dass sie die Latte für diese Technologie noch einmal höher legen werden. Demnach funktioniere sie besser als bei den Sony WH-1000XM4 oder den Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700:
On top of that, their noise canceling is arguably the best I've experienced, slightly edging out the noise canceling on both Sony's WH-1000XM4 and Bose's Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. (I haven't yet compared them closely to Bose's QuietComfort Earbuds, which offer the best noise-canceling for true-wireless earphones.) They don't completely silence the world around you, but I was out on the streets of New York, and they did a bang-up job of muffling noise -- I could barely hear the traffic around me. Finally, they work quite well as a headset for making calls and are particularly good at reducing wind noise.
Zudem wird die (von Apple gewohnte) herausragende Verarbeitungsqualität gelobt. Allerdings bemängelt man auch, dass die AirPods Max mit ihren 580 Gramm Gewicht vergleichsweise schwer sind, was sich auch beim Tragen bemerkbar macht.
For heavy headphones they are comfortable, but not necessarily super comfy. It'd be nice if they were 20% lighter, but the way the headband is designed, with its mesh canopy, it takes a good amount of pressure off the top of your head. They might look and feel a little big for people with smaller heads, but they do seem to fit a good range of head types.
Der Tragekomfort der AirPods Max ist allerdings offenbar auch stark vom jeweiligen Träger und der Kopfform abhängig. So empfanden die Kollegen von CNBC die AirPods Max auch bei längerem Gebrauch als "super comfortable". Auch die über die von der Apple Watch entliehene Digital Crown einstellbare Lautstärke soll äußerst präzise sein.
I wore the AirPods Max for several hours Wednesday and they felt super comfortable. There's a breathable mesh band on the top that felt light on my head and didn't get sweaty or hot. I also love the ear cups, which are spacious and fit around my ears instead of sitting on them.
There are a lot of high-end touches, like aluminum cups and a steel frame, instead of plastic parts you might find in competing headsets. I also dig the Digital Crown that Apple brought over from the Apple Watch. It feels solid and turns easily to adjust the volume. A lot of competing high-end headphones use touch controls for volume, which isn't as accurate as a physical control.
Für die größten Kontroversen (neben dem Preis) sorgte vor allem auch das Schutzcase der AirPods Max, welches Apple als "Smart Case" vermarktet. Technisch versetzt das Case die AirPods in einen extremen Stromsparmodus, in dem sie so gut wie gar keinen Strom meher verbrauchen. Die mehr als ungewöhnliche Optik ist allerdings bereits zum Spott in den sozialen Medien geworden. Das folgende Bild von CNET zeigt dann auch recht eindeutig warum.
Die Kollegen von The Verge erklären dann auch unumwunden, dass sie das Case schlichtweg nicht verstehen. Die meisten anderen High-End-Kopfhörer werden mit einem Schutzcase ausgeliefert, welches genau diese Aufgabe erfüllt - die Kopfhörer zu schützen, während man sie beispielsweise im Rucksack transportiert. Das Smart Case der AirPods Max wirke für diese Aufgabe hingegen mehr als nutzlos.
I have no idea what’s going on with the AirPods Max case, which is a goofy one-piece contraption that’s folded and glued over on itself to form a case. It looks very much like a purse when wrapped around the headphones, which is at once fun and clever and also not the point of a headphones case that needs to survive in a backpack. It does not appear very protective, feels like it will get dirty fast, and generally does not hold a candle to the nice hard cases that come with almost every other set of premium headphones.
It is one of the cheaper-feeling things Apple has ever made, in my estimation — the second in a trend that started with the MagSafe Duo Charger. I hope there is not a third thing.
Noch deutlicher wird Matthew Panzarino von TechCrunch, der sagt, was die meisten denken - es sieht scheiße aus:
The lack of real folding options on these, the material in the netting and the pretty definitive ‘one way’ these are meant to articulate means that I do not see these being a regular travel companion for me, on initial pass. Oh, and the case is just as ridiculous as it looks. Sorry. The construction here is just as dodgy as the MagSafe Duo. It feels cheap, and like it will dirty easily, not exactly what you want from a ‘travel case’. And it looks like a butt.
Ganz praktisch ausgedrückt, soll das Smart Case offenbar den Ein- und Ausschalter ersetzen, der an den AirPods Max tatsächlich fehlt, wie die Kollegen von MKBHD anmerken. Um sie wirklich komplett auszuschalten, muss man also quasi das Smart Case verwenden. Tut man dies nicht, dauert es zwei Stunden, ehe sich die AirPods Max automatisch in einen Stromsparmodus begeben. Bei CNET glaubt man bereits, dass es nicht lange dauern wird, ehe es eine ganze Reihe von Drittanbieter-Schutzhüllen für die AirPods Max geben wird, die größeren Zuspruch bei den Nutzern finden werden als das Apple Smart Case. Voraussetzung hierfür ist allerdings, dass sie ebenfalls in der Lage sein werden, beim Einlegen der AirPods den Stromsparmodus zu aktivieren.
I don’t know quite what to say about the protective cover that comes with the headphones. The best part about it is that it’s easy to get on and off the headphones, and adds almost no bulk to them — so yes, the headphones take up a little less room in a bag compared to the Sony WH-1000XM4, which includes a traditional hard case. Also, the magnet inside the clasp puts the headphones into a deep sleep mode to save battery life. The case does make your high-end headphones look like a purse or futuristic bra — you’ve probably seen the memes by now — which is kind of bizarre, but someone might appreciate that vibe. I suspect we’ll see plenty of alternative third-party cases.

Ein Schelm wer B\366ses dabei denkt. Meiner Meinung nach \374brigens dieselbe Strategie wie bei den h\344sslich vorstehenden Kameras. Man nimmt extra Kohle in die Hand, um einen optischen/haptischen Mangel zu beseitigen
