Apple vermeldet mal wieder einen internen Personalwechsel. Dieser ist jedoch durchaus bemerkenswert, betrifft er doch mit Apples Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering Dan Riccio einen der hochrangigsten Manager des iPhone-Herstellers. Der Pressemitteilung zufolge wechselt Riccio in eine neue, nicht näher spezifizierte Rolle, in der er sich um ein ebenfalls nicht weiter spezifiziertes neues Projekt kümmern wird. Seine bisherigen Aufgaben werden künftig von John Ternus übernommen. Mit der kryptischen Meldung ist natürlich der Spekulation Tür und Tor geöffnet. Angeblich arbeitet Apple hinter den Kulissen ja an verschiedensten Projekten, wie beispielsweise dem sagenumwobenen Apple Car.

In einem Statement lobte Apple CEO Tim Cook Dan Riccio als einen Kollegen, der Apple zu einem besseren und innivativeren Unternehmen gemacht habe und das John Ternus diesen Weg nahtlos fortsetzen werde:

"Every innovation Dan has helped Apple bring to life has made us a better and more innovative company, and we're thrilled that he'll continue to be part of the team. John's deep expertise and wide breadth of experience make him a bold and visionary leader of our Hardware Engineering teams. I want to congratulate them both on these exciting new steps, and I'm looking forward to many more innovations they'll help bring to the world."

Offiziell wird Riccios Rolle nun als "Vice President of Engineering" betitelt, was ein Downgrade gegenüber seiner bisherigen Position als Senior Vice President bedeuten würde. Es ist also auch möglich, dass er künftig etwas kürzer treten möchte. Riccio arbeitet bereits seit 1998 in verschiedenen Rollen für Apple. Nach seinem Beginn im Hardware Design Team übernahm er 2010 die Position des Vice President of iPad Hardware Engineering, eher er zwei Jahre später in die Führung des kompletten Hardware Engineering Teams wechselte. Die Pressemitteilung von Apple zitiert Dan Riccio mit den folgenden Worten:

"Working at Apple has been the opportunity of a lifetime, spent making the world's best products with the most talented people you could imagine. After 23 years of leading our Product Design or Hardware Engineering teams -- culminating with our biggest and most ambitious product year ever -- it's the right time for a change. Next up, I'm looking forward to doing what I love most -- focusing all my time and energy at Apple on creating something new and wonderful that I couldn't be more excited about."

John Ternus entstammt ebenfalls Apples Product Design Team in dem er seit 2001 tätig war. Im Jahr 2013 wechselte er dann in die Rolle des Vice President of Hardware Engineering und war als solcher unter anderem für die erste Generation der AirPods, jedes bisher veröffentlichte ?iPad? und das iPhone 12 und iPhone 12 Pro verantwortlich.
