Während Apple sich noch auf der Suche nach einem Fertigungspartner für sein gemunkeltes Apple Car befindet, meldet sich der Toyota-Präsident Akio Toyoda mit ein paar Ratschlägen in Richtung Cupertino zu Wort (via Wall Street Journal). Ähnlich wie sich auch bereits verschiedene seiner Kollegen geäußert haben, begrüßt auch Toyoda die mögliche Konkurrenz aus Cupertino, da diese den Markt im Ganzen voranbringen würde. Allerdings warnt der Toyota-Präsident Apple auch vor dem für den iPhone- und Mac-Macher neuen Markt. So müsse man sich anders als bei Computern oder Smartphones darauf einstellen, dass man Automodelle für bis zu 40 Jahre unterstützen müsse. Die Zyklen sind hier also deutlich länger als bei den von Apple bislang angebotenen Produkten:

"Anyone can make a car if they have the technical ability, but, once they make a car, I hope they’ll recognize they have to steel themselves for 40 years of responding to customers and to various changes. [...] Technology companies entering the car industry means that the car industry has a future and choices for customers will widen. We welcome new entries, but I don’t think it would be fair for those people who are newly entering to say, ‘We don’t need to steel ourselves for 40 years, and you other folks who have been around for many years, you do that.’"
