Microsoft veröffentlicht Windows 11 und Office für Mac 2021

Bei Microsoft ist der heutige 05. Oktober ein großer Tag. So wurde heute nicht nur Windows 11 in seiner finalen Version veröffentlicht, auch die Standalone-Version von Office 2021 steht seit heute zum Kauf bereit. Doch der Reihe nach. Nachdem Microsoft eigentlich bei 10 aufhören wollte Windows durchzunummerieren, änderte man bekanntermaßen vor einiger Zeit seine Meinung in Redmont und hat am heutigen Tage nach einer dreimonatigen Betaphase Windows 11 offiziell auf den Markt gebracht. Neu sind dabei nicht nur das Design, auch sind neue Multitasking-Funktionen und weitere Features mit an Bord. Ebenso wie macOS präsentiert sich künftig auch das Erscheinungsbild von Windows 11 mit abgerundeten Ecken. Generell wirkt die gesamte Optik deutlich aufgeräumter und moderner als das inzwischen sechs Jahre alte Windows 10.

Neben den abgerundeten Ecken findet man auch an anderen Stellen Ähnlichkeiten zu macOS. In der rechten unteren Ecke des Bildschirms hat Microsoft das sogenannte "Action Center" platziert, welches an Apples Kontrollzentrum in der Menüleiste von macOS erinnert. Zudem bringt Windows 11 künftig auch Widgets auf den PC. Ich persönlich bin ein großer Freund von Spaces auf dem Mac. Auch diese gibt es künftig unter Windows und zwar in Form von virtuellen Desktops zwischen denen man einach wechseln und auf denen unterschiedliche Apps ausgeführt werden können.

Wie aus der Vergangenheit bekannt, werden neue PCs künftig mit einem vorinstallierten Windows 11 ausgeliefert. Nutzer, die bereits mit Windows 10 unterwegs sind, können auf die neue Version upgraden, sofern ihr PC über das Trusted Platform Module (TPM) verfügt. Macs mit Apple Silicon Prozessor sind nach wie vor nicht nativ in der Lage, Windows 11 auszuführen. Weder steht die Funktion unter Boot Camp zur Verfügung, noch ist es über eine Virtualisierungslösung aktuell möglich, Windows 11 auf den Mac zu befördern. Ob dies irgendwann künftig der Fall sein sollte, steht in den Sternen und liegt allein in der Hand von Microsoft.

Neben Windows 11 hat Microsoft heute auch die Standalone-Version von Office 2021 für den Mac veröffentlicht. Hierbei handelt es sich wohlgemerkt um die Bezahlversion der Office-Suite von Microsoft, also nicht das Office 365 (eigentlich inzwischen Microsoft 365) Abonnement. Mit an Bord sind erneut die gewohnten Produktiv-Apps Word, Excel, PowerPoint und OneNote, sowie optional auch Outlook. Die neue Standalone-Version enthält allerdings verschiedene Kollaborations-Funktionen, die auch in Microsoft 365 enthalten sind, inkl. der gleichzeitigen Bearbeitung von Dokumenten oder auch die Nutzung von Microsoft Teams. Alle neuen Funktionen hat Microsoft in einem zugehörigen Support-Dokument zusammengefasst.

Abonnenten von Microsoft 365 erhalten die neuen Versionen und Funktionen natürlich im Rahmen ihres Abonnements. Greift man hingegen zur eigenständigen Bezahlversion, hat man die Wahl zwischen den folgenden beiden Optionen:

  • Office Home & Student 2021: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote und Microsoft Teams (€ 149,- bei Amazon)
  • Office Home & Business 2021: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook und Microsoft Teams (€ 299,- bei Amazon)

Aber folgendes ist falsch:
Die Stadt heisst "Redmond" mit D.
Virtuelle Desktops gibt es seit Windows 10.
Ob man Windows 11 installieren kann, hängt auch vom Prozessor ab. Nicht nur vom TPM.

Der M1 gehört aber nicht zu einer Chipfamilie von Qualcomm oder einem anderen Anbieter. Sondern ist ein von TSMC exklusiv für Apple entwickeltes SoC.

Klar, Microsoft könnte Geld in die Hand nehmen und Windows exklusiv dafür entwicklen.

Die Frage ist nur, warum sollten sie?
