Apples ProMotion-Technologie für eine variable Bildwiederholfrequenz findet sich inzwischen in immer mehr Produkten aus Cupertino wieder. Einem aktuellen Gerücht zufolge könnte sich demnächst noch ein weiteres hinzugesellen. Laut einem Beitrag in einem koreanischen Forum der via Twitter von @FronTron weiterverbreitet wurde, soll Apple aktuell ein neues Display von Samsung testen, welches über ProMotion verfügt und für das iPad mini gedacht sein soll. Erst in diesem Herbst hat Apple das Gerät komplett überarbeitet und dabei mit einem nahezu rahmenlosen Display, Touch ID im Powerknopf,  dem A15 Bionic Chip und einem USB-C Port ausgestattet. Das Display verfügt jedoch nach wie vor über eine fixe 60Hz Frequenz und wurde kurz nach dem Verkaufsstart für das Auftreten des sogenannten "Jelly Scrolling" kritisiert, bei dem sich die linke Bildschirmhälfte im Hochkantbetrieb leicht schneller aktualisiert als die rechte.

Zwar verbaut Apple die ProMotion-Technologie aktuell ausschließlich in Pro-Modellen seiner Geräte, weswegen eine Übertragung auf das iPad mini ein wenig abwegig erscheint. Allerdings gab es in der Vergangenheit erstens auch Gerüchte zu einem möglichen "iPad mini Pro" und andererseits könnte man auf diese Weise auch den "Jelly Scrolling" Effekt vermeiden. Warten wir es also ab.
