Die Überraschung ist perfekt. Auch wenn der Apple TV+ Originals Film "CODA" in den vergangenen Wochen bereits mehrere wichtige Preise abgeräumt hatte, war die Konkurrenz bei der Oscar-Verleihung in der vergangenen Nacht doch ziemlich groß. Dennoch konnte sich "CODA" am Ende durchsetzen und den Oscar in der Königs-Kategorie als bester Film mit nach Hause nehmen - als erster Film eines Streaminganbieters überhaupt! Darüber hinaus wurde Troy Kotsur auch noch als bester Nebendarsteller ausgezeichnet. Auch hier gab es ein Novum: Kotsur ist der erste gehörlose Schauspieler, dem diese Ehre zuteil wird. Der Oscar in der Kategorie "Best Adapted Screenplay" für Drehbuchautorin und Regisseurin Siân Heder machte den Triumph für "CODA" perfekt.

Apple veröffentlichte bereits eine Pressemitteilung, in der Apple TV+ Chef Zack Van Amburg mit den folgenden Worten zitiert wird:

"On behalf of everyone at Apple, we are so grateful to the Academy for the honors bestowed on ‘CODA’ this evening. We join our teams all over the world in celebrating Siân, Troy, the producers, and the entire cast and crew for bringing such a powerful representation of the Deaf community to audiences, and breaking so many barriers in the process. It has been so rewarding to share this life-affirming, vibrant story, which reminds us of the power of film to bring the world together."

Sein Kollege Jamie Erlicht ergänzt:

"What an incredible journey it has been since the moment we first saw ‘CODA’ to today’s historic recognition from the Academy. It has been a true joy to witness the positive impact on humanity that this story and its performances have had worldwide. We send our warmest congratulations to Siân; Troy; the cast; the creative team; producers Patrick, Philippe, and Fabrice; and everyone who helped bring inclusion and accessibility to the forefront through this remarkable film."

Und auch Apple CEO Tim Cook, der der Oscar-Verleihung in der vergangenen Nacht persönlich beiwohnte äußerte sich bereits auf Twitter zu dem großen Tag für den Streamingdienst seines Unternehmens:
