Face ID Sensoren unter dem Display werden für das iPhone 16 erwartet

Inzwischen dürfte hinlänglich bekannt sein, dass ich kein großer Freund von Face ID bin und mir Touch ID zumindest ergänzend zu der Gesichtserkennung sehnlichst am iPhone zurück wünsche. Erst kürzlich hatte der Apple-Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo meinen Schmerz weiter verstärkt als er verkündete, dass zumindest in den kommenden zwei Jahren nicht mit einem Comeback von Touch ID am iPhone zu rechnen sei. Stattdessen scheint Apple weiter bei Face ID All-In zu gehen. Ziel wird es dabei sein, die Kamera-Technologie für die Gesichtserkennung mittelfristig unter das Display zu verlagern, um damit endgültig eine Vorderseite zu erzielen, die komplett aus Display besteht.

Nun hat zu diesem Thema auch der Display-Analyst Ross Young seinen Hut in den Ring geworfen und erklärt, dass er die Reife der benötigten Technologie für das iPhone 16, sprich in 2024 erwartet. Kuo hat dieser Erwartung inzwischen zugestimmt, allerdings sieht der Analyst neben den technischen Gründen auch noch Apples Marketingstrategie als Faktor. So hat Apple eine Tendenz, für mindestens zwei Jahre an Designentscheidungen festzuhalten. Sollte also das iPhone 14 Pro in diesem Jahr mit dem erwarteten doppelten Hole-Punch Display erscheinen, dürfte dieses auch nächstes Jahr noch bestehen bleiben, ehe es dann 2024 der Under-Display Technologie weicht.
