"Get the Message": Google fordert Apple erneut auf, den RCS-Standard in iMessage zu unterstützen

Das Thema USB-C hatten wir heute Nachmittag bereits in den News. Doch nicht nur hier steht Apple unter Druck, um sich unter anderem in der EU einem einheitlichen Ladestandard für elektronische Kleingeräte anzuschließen. Auch das Thema Interoperabilität zwischen den etablierten Instant Messengern steht nach wie vor auf der Tagesordnung. Und nicht nur die EU drängt Apple hier zum handeln, auch Googles Android-Team fordert Apple nun auf der jüngst gestarteten Webseite "Get the Message" ganz öffentlich auf: "It's time for Apple to fix texting". Damit meint man, dass Apple die sogenannten "Rich Communication Services" (RCS) in iMessage unterstützen soll. Dies ist nicht das erste Mal, dass dies geschieht. Apple hat auf die Aufforderungen bislang jedoch noch nicht reagiert.

RCS ist dafür auserkoren, den aktuellen SMS-Standard zu ersetzen und bietet dabei so gut wie alle in den beliebten Messengern genutzte Funktionen wie hochauflösende Fotos und Videos, Sprachnachrichten, den Versand von Datein, Reaktionen mit Emojis und eine Ende-zu-Ende Verschlüsselung.

Ein wirklich spannendes Thema sind auch die grünen und blauen Sprechblasen, die Apple in der Nachrichten-App einsetzt, je nachdem ob die Nachricht per SMS oder per iMessage verschickt wurde. Da iMessage unter Android nicht zur Verfügung steht, tauchen hier entsprechend ausschließlich grüne Sprechblasen auf, was bereits zu einer Art Mobbing-Dikussion bei Jugendlichen geführt hat. Neben der unterschiedlichen Farbe bei den Sprechblasen sind es aber vor allem verschickte Bilder in schlechter Qualität (MMS) oder auch fehlende Zustellbenachrichtigungen, die Googles Android-Team ein Dorn im Auge sind.

Parallel zu der oben verlinkten Webseite hat das Android-Team auch noch einen Blogbeitrag veröffentlicht, in dem man die Arbeitsweise von RCS erläutert und die aktuellen Probleme zwischen iOS und Android thematisiert. Inzwischen unterstützen so gut wie alle Mobilfunkanbieter RCS, so dass Apple aus Googles Sicht nun keine Argumente mehr hat, den Standard auch in iMessage zu implementieren. Aus Cupertino gibt es hierzu aber auch weiterhin keine Aussage.

"fix" kann aber auch bedeuten, etwas vorzubereiten oder festzulegen. Fix a price oder fix dinner. Google nutzt hier ein Wortspiel.

RCS soll SMS ersetzen, um eben die einzelnen Gärten von iMessage, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. zu umgehen. RCS unterstützt sogar E2E-Verschlüsselung.

Google hat es 2018 bei Android eingeführt. Bei den großen Providern selber gibt es das schon seit 2012. Auch in China.
Tipp: "Most" wird verwendet, damit nicht jemand Schmerzensgeld einklagt, weil sein Gerät von 2008 nicht unterstützt wird.

Also es ist ein neuer Standard, der durch Apples Blockade ins Stocken geraten ist.
