Bei Wortmeldungen von Analysten zu kommenden Apple-Produkten sollte man immer eine gehörige Portion Skepsis walten lassen. Wenn sich jedoch der in der Vergangenheit durchaus treffsichere KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo zu Wort meldet, kann man schon einmal hin hören. Aktuell geht es um die fünfte iPad-Generation, von der Kuo erwartet, dass die Massenproduktion im Zeitraum August/September beginnen wird und dass das Gerät um die 15% dünner und 25% leichter wird als das aktuelle iPad 4. Damit käme man auf ein Gewicht von ungefähr einem halben Kilogramm. Zum Vergleich: Das aktuelle iPad wiegt je nach Ausstattung bis zu 662 Gramm. Die 15% Reduktion in der Dicke würden einem neuen Maß von 7,5 bis 8 mm entsprechen. Im Innenleben soll, wenig überraschend, ein A7X Chip zum Einsatz kommen. Die Kameras sollen sich wenn überhaupt, nur marginal verändern. Beim Display soll laut Kuo dieselbe GF2 Touch-Technologie zum Einsatz kommen, die Apple auch beim iPad mini verwendet und unter anderem dünnere Bauteile in diesem Bereich ermöglicht. In Sachen Akku soll Apple durch die neuen Display-Technologien in der Lage sein, die Anzahl der Zellen von drei auf zwei und die Kapazität um 25-30% auf 8.500-9.000 mAh zu reduzieren. Das Design des Gehäuses soll sich an das des iPad mini angleichen, einen schmaleren Rand an den Längsseiten aufweisen und weiterhin in den Farben schwarz und weiß erscheinen. Erwartet werden darf das neue iPad dann vermutlich ähnlich wie im vergangenen Jahr wieder im Herbst. (via MacRumors)
