Google veröffentlicht "Backup & Sync" Desktop-App für den Mac

Interessanterweise wird das Thema Backup von den meisten Nutzern auch im Jahre 2017 immer noch vernachlässigt. Während Apple dem versucht entgegenzuwirken, indem man weite Teile dieses Prozesses auotmatisiert und so den Nutzer versucht aus dem Spiel zu nehmen, gehen die meisten nach wie vor erschütternd sorglos mit ihren Daten um. Meist kommt das böse Erwachen dann erst, wenn man einmal durch einen Defekt Daten wie beispielsweise Fotos unwiederbringlich verloren hat. Das automatische iCloud-Backup des iPhone oder die heimische Time Machine für den Mac helfen da schon deutlich weiter. Nun hat auch Google seine neue Software Backup & Sync zum kostenlosen Download für den Mac bereitgestellt. Hiermit lassen sich vor allem Fotos, aber auch alle anderen Daten in der Cloud sichern und synchronisieren.

Dies geschieht naturgemäß auf einem Google Drive bzw. in Google Photos, wofür natürlich ein entsprechendes Google-Benutzerkonto benötigt wird. Nach der Installation klinkt sich die schlanke App in die Menüleiste des Macs und bietet hier verschiedene Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten. So kann man unter anderem festlegen, ob man nur Fotos und Videos oder auch weitere Daten sichern möchte. Hierzu wählt man einfach die Ordner auf dem Mac aus, die die App sichern soll. Dies geschieht nach der Konfiguration anschließend bei jeder Änderung an und in diesem Ordner automatisch. Zusätzlich lässt sich auch festlegen, ob Daten von angeschlossenen SD-Karten oder USB-Sticks automatisch importiert und gesichert werden sollen.

Die Backup & Sync App von Google kann ab sofort kostenlos über die Webseiten von Google Drive und Google Photos erfolgen, wobei beide Downloads identisch sind. Ob man natürlich seine persönlichen Daten ausgerechnet bei Google sichern möchte, muss jeder selber entscheiden.
