Jahresrückblick 2013: Januar - März

Wie aus dem letzten Jahr gewohnt, gibt es auch in 2013 wieder einen kleinen Rückblick auf die hinter uns liegenden 12 Apple-Monate zwischen den Feiertagen. Somit verbleibt die Zeit auch ohne spannende Meldungen nicht ganz Apple-frei. Auch das Jahr 2013 hielt also mal wieder einige spannende, aber auch überraschende Momente in Sachen Apple parat. In vier Folgen werfe ich einen Blick zurück auf das, was die Apple-Welt im Jahr 2013 bewegt hat. Los geht's mit den wichtigsten News aus den Monaten Januar bis März.

Januar

Zu Beginn des Jahres ging es direkt um die diesjährigen Generationen des iPhone. So war es bereits in den ersten Tagen des Jahres der Analyst Brian White, der bunte Farben für das iPhone voraussagte, was ich seinerzeit als absurd abgetan habe. Auch wenn damals noch nicht abzusehen war, dass es zwei neue iPhones geben wird (auch wenn ein günstigeres Modell bereits gemunkelt wurde), sollte ich eines besseren belehrt werden. Im September erwartete uns das iPhone 5c, welches in der Tat in verschiedenen Farben auf den Markt kam. Und auch der Fingerabdrucksensor des iPhone 5s zeichnete sich bereits ab. Ebenfalls gab es bereits erste Gerüchte zum neuen WLAN-Standard 802.11ac, welchen Apple später im Jahr bei verschiedenen neuen Macs verbaute.

Die wohl treffendsten Vorhersagen zu Apples 2013er Produktplanung konnten im Januar bereits die Kollegen von iLounge vermelden in zwei Artikeln (hier und hier) gingen die Kollegen damals bereits korrekt auf viele Details der erst im Herbst vorgestellten neuen Generationen von iPhone und iPad ein und konnten damit einen echten Coup landen.

Im Januar 2013 konnte der iOS AppStore erneut einen Meilenstein verzeichnen. So wurde die Grenze von 40 Millionen Downloads erreicht. Wie sich herausstellen sollte, sollte dies nicht der letzte Meilenstein des Jahres sein.

Apple hielt für alle Nutzer eines iPhone, iPad, iPod touch oder Apple TV auch noch ein größeres Betriebssystemupdate auf iOS 6.1 bereit, welche viele Probleme der Ursprungsversion behoben hat.

Februar

Im Februar deutete sich erstmals konkret an, dass Apple dringend etwas an seinem High-End-Mac, dem Mac Pro wird machen müssen. Verschiedene Regularien der EU sorgten nämlich dafür, dass das damals aktuelle Modell des Mac Pro ab dem 01. März nicht mehr in den Ländern der Union verkauft werden durfte. Dennoch dauerte es anschließend noch bis Ende des Jahres, ehe Apple den neuen Mac Pro auf den Markt brachte.

Zu Beginn des Jahres erhielt die iPad-Familie überraschend Zuwachs. So führte Apple ein neues Modell mit einer Speicherkapazität von erstmals 128 GB ein, die Anfang Februar in den Verkauf ging. Doch nicht nur beim iPad gab es Neuerungen, auch verschiedene Modelle der MacBook-Familie wurden im Februar in aktualisierter Form in den Apple Store aufgenommen. Diese Produktaktualisierungen sollten allerdings für längere Zeit dann auch erstmal die einzigen in der ersten Jahreshälfte bleiben.

Nach dem Download-Meilenstein im AppStore im Januar zog der iTunes Store im Februar nach und überschritt die Marke von 25 Milliarden verkauften Songs. Ich persönlich kann mich schon gar nicht mehr daran erinnern, wann ich mir das letzte Mal eine CD gekauft habe. Und auch iTunes U hatte eine spannende Zahl zu vermelden. Hier überschritten die Downloads die Milliardengrenze.

Auf iOS 6.1 im Januar folgten im Februar noch die kleinren Updates auf iOS 6.1.1 und iOS 6.1.2, sowie auf iTunes 11.0.2.

März

Anders als in den vergangenen Jahren nutzte Apple den März im Jahr 2013 nicht für die Vorstellung des neuen iPad. Dies deutete sich bereits an und wurde dann auch traurige Gewissheit. Während die ersten drei iPad-Generationen jeweils im März das Licht der Welt erblickten, musste man sich 2013 bis zum Herbst gedulden, ehe man die neuen Generationen in den Händen halten konnte. Dafür deutete sich bereits einmal mehr das iPad mini mit Retina Display für später im Jahr an.

Und auch der KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo unterstrich einmal mehr seine Treffsicherheit bei Vorhersagen für Apple-Produkte und kündigte erstmals zwei neue iPhones für dieses Jahr an. Zu dem "normalen" s-Update des iPhon5 erwartete er bereits im März ein weiteres Modell mit Kunststoff-Rückseite und 4"-Display.

In Sachen iOS 7 deutete sich erstmals der Designwechsel vom unter Steve Jobs und Scott Forstall gelebten Skeuomorphismus, hin zum "Flat Design" von Jony Ive an. Zwar bietet das im Sommer veröffentlichte iOS 7 nach wie vor verschiedene Skeuomorphismen, allerdings sollte das Update den tiefsten Einschnitt in das Betriebssystem seit dem ersten iPhone darstellen.

Für alle Mac-User veröffentlichte Apple das Mountain-Lion-Update auf Version 10.8.3, welches verschiedene Fehlerkorrekturen und Verbesserungen mitbrachte. Und auch iOS wurde weiter kräftig aktualisiert. Im März stand Version 6.1.3 auf dem Plan.
