Wie arrogant kann eigentlich ein Technologie-Konzern sein? Die Antwort auf diese Frage vom Facebook-Mutterkonzern Meta: Ja. Anders kann man es wohl nicht erklären, dass man in Menlo Park der Ansicht ist, man könnte den europäischen Datenschützern damit drohen, Facebook und Instagram in Europa abzuschalten, wenn die hiesigen Bestimmungen nicht gelockert würden. Stein des Antsoßes sind die Pläne von Meta, Daten von europäischen auf US-amerikanische Server zu transferieren, wo wesentlich locker mit dem Thema Datenschutz umgegangen wird als in Europa. Aktuell befinden sich die USA und die EU nämlich in festgefahrenen Verhandlungen für eine Neuauflage des sogenannten EU-US Privacy Shield, der bis ins vergangene Jahr den Datenaustausch zwischen den beiden Regionen regelte. Allerdings wurde die Vereinbarung vom Europäischen Gerichtshof gekippt, da die Daten der europäischen Nutzer auf den amerikanischen Servern nicht ausreichend vor dem Zugriff durch US-Behörden und Geheimdienste geschützt seien.

Die Reaktionen aus verschiedenen Richtungen auf die "Drohung" von Meta, Facebook und Instagram in Europa nicht mehr anzubieten kann man allerdings durchaus feiern. Zusammengefasst lautet die Antwort der EU-Datenschützer an Mark Zuckerberg: Mach doch. So erklärte Wirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck , dass er seit vier Jahren kein Facebook mehr nutze und das Leben seither wunderbar sei. Der französische Finanzminister Bruno Le Maire sprang ihm zur Seite und erklärte, er könne dies bestätigen. 

Und auch die Schlagzeilen zu dem Thema aus den USA sprühen vor Sarkasmus. So bringen die Kollegen von Mashable ihren Neid zum Ausdruck, dass Meta damit droht, Facebook und Instagram in Europa, nicht jedoch in den USA abzuschalten: Man do Europeans have it good. Und um abschließend nun auch die Eingangsfrage zu beantworten: Wie arrogant kann eigentlich ein Technologie-Konzern sein? So arrogant, dass einen die ganze Welt zu einer "Drohung" auslacht.

Zum einen hat Meta ja eh von fast allen das Adressbuch bei der Anmeldung bekommen, zum andern verlangt Meta auch gerne mal eine Telefonnummer zum „bestätigen“ eines Kontos, wenn Meta nicht ausreichend Daten über einen sammeln kann. Und anhand deiner gesammelten Daten (das includiert ja auch deine IP-Adresse, die ja das Land verrät, aus dem du kommst (Stichwort geoblocking), weiß Meta recht genau woher du kommst, was du machst, magst usw.

D.h. Nutzer aus einer gewissen Region auszusperren wäre die leichteste Übung. Aber das wird eh nicht kommen, ist eine leere Drohung.
